Join the Big Scottish Book Club this weekend

Have you ever been in a book club? If not, you’re invited to join one this weekend.

The Big Scottish Book Club is a new four-part TV show, beginning on Sunday, 10 November, and as host Damian Barr says at the top of the show: “Welcome to the first ever episode of The Big Scottish Book Club.”

Writer Damian hosts this new four-part series in which he interviews the biggest names in fiction, non-fiction and poetry from across Scotland, the UK and the world, before a live audience of literature lovers.

An award-winning author in his own right, Damian has ‘booked’ some top names for the series from Maggie O’Farrell to Denise Mina and Marian Keyes, from Graham Norton to David Nicholls and Patrick Gale.

This first edition of The Big Scottish Book Club comes from the Inchyra Arts Club in Perthshire. The theme of the show is crime and Damian’s guests are the man behind inspector Rebus, Ian Rankin with his latest book in the series, In A House of Lies, debut novelist Sara Collins with her novel The Confessions  f Frannie Langton and writing duo Ambrose Parry, aka Chris Brookmyre and Marisa Haetzman with The Way of All Flesh.  Poet Richard Scott completes the line-up, performing his work Dancing Bear.

As well as in-depth chats with writers, the series will also see Damian stepping out each week with a local book club.

In the first episode, he goes to Cupar to meet the Walk On group and takes a ‘leaf out of their book’ joining them as they walk and talk all things literary.

It will be shown on BBC Scotland, from 10-11pm.
